Cinema Swarm – Autonomous Subject Tracking Robotic Camera System

I’ve been working on my Vive-tracking robotic cameras for just over a year now, and I’m falling over with excitement to announce that they’re now autonomous enough to have their own name:

Cinema Swarm

For the first public outing of the multi-camera system, we filmed 24 bands in 2 days.

To be in Brisbane’s best music venue, surrounded by hugely talented people, and have this crazy thing working, moving, tracking, and capturing footage exactly how I’d hoped it would when I first designed it inside my brain. That was a pretty special time. Continue reading Cinema Swarm – Autonomous Subject Tracking Robotic Camera System

My Own Pet Radio – No Great Mystery: Music Video

After having a lovely time working together on visuals for Ball Park Music, Sam Cromack asked me to help him create a world for the debut single from his solo project, My Own Pet Radio.

Combining 3D printed characters, robotic controlled animation and a twee black and white aesthetic, this shoot was just as much fun as you’d expect. Continue reading My Own Pet Radio – No Great Mystery: Music Video

Ball Park Music – Bad Taste Blues Part II: Music Video

Another collaboration between Graetzmedia and the amazing humans of Ball Park Music.

The “house” and “science lab” scenes of this piece were all shot at my home, I invented the ejector-pants, and shot B-cam angles for the performance scenes. (Also: Sneaky bus stop cameo, so I could be on hand to reset the ejector pants between takes.)

Mt Franklin Lightly Sparkling & Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins: Advertisement

This was an interesting shoot. I flew to Sydney to represent Graetzmedia in a big commercial production, with the camBLOCK motion control system packed in 2 big Pelican cases. Turned up at FOX Studios, walked in to the giant soundstage and announced myself as the Motion Control guy, to receive the response “No you’re not. Where’s all your gear?”

There were a lot of grizzled advertising shoot veterans with surprised looks at the end of that day. camBLOCK handled the full size Alexa with aplomb, and we spent a very pleasant time filming lots of copies of a pretty lady in different bikinis.

Tara Simmons – Weekend of Hearts: Music Video

The first public use of the audio-reactive lighting system I developed for Ableton Live. The lighting of this clip was controlled entirely via the sounds of the music. The individual audio “stems” – vocals, synths, kick drum, snare etc. – were routed to different lighting channels to create a perfectly synced yet organic looking lighting show.
